We've had Nobie's bookmarked for a couple of years and we decided to go for my wife's birthday this year. Nobie's prides itself on high quality ingredients, a small and cozy interior, and handmade pasta. Located in the Montrose area, Nobie's looks like a former house in the area that was converted. We found street parking not too far away so that was easy. We've had to make reservations quite far in advance as their interior doesn't seat that many tables. Service was fine, our server recommended the usual favorites and let us know which dishes are seasonal and what she recommended. Their wine and cocktail menu was a bit smaller than expected, with only around 6 cocktails to choose from and the rest of the list is for liquor and wine. The ambiance inside is extremely dimly lit and dark. From what I saw, there's maybe around 15-20 covers inside and bar seating as well as a couple spots outside. For appetizers, we got the Texas tartare and clam chowder croquettes. The Texas tartare was seasoned well and pretty tasty, served with freshly roasted wheat bread. 4.5/5, I could've eaten a pound of this. The clam chowder croquettes were served with an old bay mayo mix/aioli. I wasn't a fan of the sauce and the croquettes really didn't have much seafood or clam flavor; we failed to taste or find any clam pieces; 2/5. Onto the mains; we ordered the octopus prime, Charlie and the pasta factory, and nonno's pasta. The octopus was cooked well and very tender, with a chili aioli and a tasty dish, 4/5. Charlie and the pasta factory had some cavatelli and pork. This dish was super tasty and one of the best pasta dishes I've had in Houston, 5/5. The pork was also very tender and flavorful and the peppers were a nice touch for texture. The nonno's pasta was our other pasta dish. The meat sauce was a bit overly salty and single noted; the pasta itself was cooked well and tasty but the dish got tiresome to eat and a bit salt as you kept going at it, 3/5. The music in the restaurant is usually not something I comment on or remember but the whole dinner consisted of playing early 2,000's hip-hop which was an interesting choice. Would've preferred some more mellow chill hop or something less bass heavy to allow diners to carry a conversation without yelling. Overall it was great to try out Nobie's and there were definitely some hits and misses. Their pasta is tasty but menu is quite small and lacks some variety and cohesion. The portions are definitely on the small side so over-order and share the dishes family style. Did it live up to expectations? Both yes and no. We enjoyed the meal but there were definitely some things that could've improved the meal.

Dining in America doesn't get much better than this! Amazing food, classic service, chic environment and casual dress, ...the only thing missing is parking! Beautiful European-style plating of entrees and sides served family-style as they are prepared by the kitchen are great for sharing and bonding over meals. We started with dilly bread and enjoyed every morsel as we sip cocktails. Did I mention that it was "Whiskey Wednesday"? Did I mention that select cocktails are only $4 on Whiskey Wednesdays. I had a gold rush. The first entry delivered was grilled artichoke, a fun dish to share over drinks and conversation. The pasta dish "charlie & the pasta factory" and the main entry "winner winner chicken dinner" came out at the same time. The chicken was exceptional. Served with a mixed green salad and pickles, the plating was exceptional and so was the flavor. Similar (though darker) in appearance to Frankenmuth Chicken, the flavors were as bold as Texas. I can see why this is Brittany B's favorite restaurant for entertaining. By the way, we finished the meal with pie!

I've wanted to try Nobie's for quite a while now. When we finally had a toddler-free night (thanks to my MIL), we jumped at the opportunity! Reservations are a bit hard to snag but if you arrive as soon as they open, you should be able to grab bar seats, at least. Everything was really tasty. We tried their famous Dilly Bread and it was like eating a cloud. I didn't even need the butter/trout roe -- it was great on its own. Also tried the Clam Chowder Croquettes -- this is probably my one small complaint -- I didn't really taste the clam, just the potatoes. That being said, they were still delicious and came with a really tasty sauce. For my entree, I had the Octopus Prime - yum. Perfect texture. The potatoes on the side were excellent as well (very crispy). My fiancé had the Charlie & the Pasta Factory -- we both thought it was delicious and an awesome combination of flavors/textures. Finally, for dessert, we shared the olive oil cake. SO GOOD. I highly recommend it. It tastes so much better than it sounds. The texture is amazing and it's so moist and flavorful. I will note that it's not exactly cheap. They do have items at various price points, at least. I wholeheartedly recommend Nobie's. Can't wait to come back to try more of their menu (which also changes regularly).

My current favorite New American restaurant. Dilly Bread - 4/5. Fluffy and delicious, dill butter can be a bit overwhelming, and a tad too salty. Goat Cheese Tots - 5/5. My new favorite appetizer in all of Houston. Worth the trip alone. Texas Tartare - 3/5. One of their signature dishes, but I thought it was only okay at best. Pasta Bolognese - 4/5. Really awesome pasta dish, but serving size could be bigger. Olive Oil Cake - 4/5. Super moist and delish. Could be a tad sweeter. Banana Black Bottom Pie - 5/5. They specialize in pies and did not disappoint. Gold Rush (cocktail) - 5/5. Great balance, and it was half off on Wednesday. Manhattan - 2/5. Flavor was okay, but it was pretty rough to drink. They should use a smoother whiskey. Service was above and beyond. Ambiance was okay. DJ played some good tunes. Overall, I had a great experience even if every dish wasn't a home run.
